This Was Mundo Hacker 2023 - Cybersecurity Congress

Recording a whole congress gives you plenty of material, so this time I don’t throw myself at the microphone alone, which gets dull. Marta Barrio, from Securiters, joins me, and behind the scenes David Márquez, from Advents, works as executive producer. The interview format is simple: each guest leaves a question for the next one, without knowing who it will be, and almost all of them end up pulling on the same thread, artificial intelligence.

A very mixed bunch comes through. Jaime, founder of DragonJAR, who started in security back in 2001, recommends beginning in a SOC because they pay you while you learn. Telmo shows off a fake BTS he built for around 750 euros, capable of mimicking gear that costs two million in government hands, sending phishing SMS and forcing your phone down to 2G to grab your session cookies without you touching a thing. David Marugán brings a small radio lab that decodes APRS signals from the International Space Station as it passes over Spain.

I also sit down with Antonio Ramos, who founded Mundo Hacker and is celebrating the event’s tenth edition, with memories of the Mundo Hacker Radio podcast back in 2007. Enrique Serrano makes the case for tinkering and breaking things to learn, and explains why the blue team has more of a future than it seems. Joaquín Gómez argues for getting ahead of the threat instead of chasing it with a fire extinguisher. We agree that the hard part isn’t banning AI, but raising awareness and educating.
