The CyberWeek with the Captain | Ep. 2

We look after the computer with antivirus, firewalls and a thousand precautions, and then we carry our phone practically naked down the street. The bad guys know it. In this second episode of The CyberWeek the Captain brings an Android banking trojan that isn’t content with emptying your account: it can also steal your PIN and unlock pattern. In other words, the master key to the phone that holds your entire life.

We take the chance to recall an interview with Marc Rivero, who knows a great deal about this, on an idea that still sounds strange to many people: yes, the phone also has viruses, trojans and malware. It’s not an immune appliance, it’s a computer with your bank, your photos and your email inside. And from there we jump to the uncomfortable part. The famous leak of Hollywood actresses’ photos and the so-called Barbra Streisand effect: sometimes publicly denouncing that you’ve been a victim ends up multiplying the harm instead of stopping it. The conversation leaves a moral I repeat a lot. Technology changes fast, but human nature not so much.
