SECURITERS with MARTA BARRIO

They say that to make it as a streamer you need a cat that wanders into frame to ask what you’re doing. Today’s guest already meets that requirement, so she was left with no excuses to take the plunge. I continue the section devoted to educators and I’m joined by Marta Barrio.

Marta describes herself as a curious girl who always knew she wanted to work in computing and ended up hooked on the cyber world. Out of that came Securiters, a project that started as an awareness podcast for all audiences and has grown toward Twitch, Instagram and Twitter, alongside Carol Gómez. We talk about how hard it is to find time (she declares herself the minister of her own time), about why she chose audio over video and about how the cybersecurity community almost always gives back whatever you ask of it. She takes the chance to slip in her online course on basic web auditing, with the code Gatetes and part of the proceeds going to an animal charity.

Her advice for getting started is simple: don’t be embarrassed, be eager to learn and find your own niche, because cybersecurity is enormous and it’s not all about breaking things. And yes, she signs up for the educators’ event we’ve been wanting to put together for a while.
