Tierra de Hackers with Martín Vigo - A Cybersecurity Newsreel Turned Podcast

A cybersecurity newsreel turned podcast. The word sounds so old-fashioned that during the conversation itself we joke that it’s the NO-DO of cybersecurity. That’s the format Tierra de Hackers works in, and to launch my section on educators I bring back a guest: Martín Vigo, the first to come twice.

Martín talks to me from Silicon Valley, where he passed through Apple and Salesforce before dedicating himself to red teaming. Out of his obsession with privacy (he’s surprised at how public people’s information is in the United States) came the podcast he makes with Alexis Porros, every two weeks and with two-hour episodes that take them around twenty-five hours of work between researching, recording and editing. They don’t make money, in fact they lose it on hosting, but they do it out of passion and for personal branding. Their driving force is to inform and attract new talent, which isn’t always young people.

I ask him for tips on getting started and he answers without beating around the bush: the OWASP Top 10, practicing on learning platforms and also looking at the blue team, which has more work than it seems. He himself started with an XSS and earned his first twenty-five euros in a taxi voucher. And, of course, he signs up for the educators’ event.
