🌍 What is OSINT? 🕵️‍♀️ How to work as an Open Source Intelligence Investigator? with Jezer Ferreira

John McAfee was tracked down by a few photos. The creator of the famous antivirus was on the run, posted some images on Twitter and, from the wine bottle and a strip of beach showing in the background, people worked out he was in Catalonia. That too is OSINT, and to tell us how you dig through open sources I’m joined by Jezer Ferreira.

Jezer is Brazilian, has lived in Spain for eight years and spent more than ten in cyber. He jumped from the forensics world into OSINT back when it didn’t even have that name. Today he makes his living from training, consulting and open-source investigation, and he trains law enforcement in several countries. He shares some juicy stories: a case in Brazil stuck for two years that got unstuck live during a training session, with an arrest within twenty-four hours, along with investigations into companies and executives and even a kidnapping in Latin America. And he explains where he draws his ethical lines and why he turns certain jobs down.

Then we get down to the practical grind: metadata, Google dorks, Maltego, Shodan, FOCA and the Bizum trick for putting a name to a phone number, plus the difference between OSINT and doxing, the same information used for another purpose. We agree that technology is neither good nor bad and that what counts is the use we make of it. He recommends books, courses and his own event, Osintomático.
